  1. Well i read a couple of books over this last quarter. Among them are the "Trojan Odessey", the "Hunger Games" , and "Catching Fire.
The Trojan Odessey is about how brother and sister Dirk and Summer Pitt are exploring the depths of the coral reefs in the carribean. Once there they remains of an ancient greek civilization that was in the americas. It also includes the dangers that are present which includes the worst hurricane in history.
The Hunger Games is about a girl who lives in a society in which the future is deselant in north america. Composed of Twelve Districts, they have been surviving on whatever they can muster up. But for a girl named katniss, the person who this story is based around, it is a nightmare. You see, every year the capital demands that every year they send one boy and one girl to from each district to fight to the death in the hunger games. Katniss is chosen to be in these games and this book describes her troubles throughout the whole games.
Catching fire is the sequel to the Hunger Games. It is a book that basically describes how she has the capital breathing down her neck for winning these games. It describes how she has to go to each district to represent herself as the winner of the games. Nobody from the opposing districts were happy about her arrival.
These are the books i read over the nine weeks.

  2. There were three books that I read for my Independent Novel Project. They were: "The Wish List", "Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox", and "Mockingjay".
To start off, I'm going to talk about "The Wish List". This is a book written by Eoin Colfer, and consists of approximately 200 pages. My opinion of this book is that it is a very cleverly written story. This book tells the story of a girl who dies, and comes back as a spirit to help complete a wish list(basically a bucket list). Throughout the story, there are influences from Heaven, and H*ll. This is not something you regularly find in a story, and so the story remained entertaining throughout.
The next book (approximately 390 pages)that I read was "Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox". Like any paradox would be, this book was confusing! The story is about Artemis traveling back and forth through time, trying to save his mother from a fatal disease. At times, it can be somewhat hard to keep track of what is in the present, and what is in the past. Now, I have always been a fan of Artemis Fowl books. This book is definately no exception! It is full of action, adventure, and excitement. This is a story that is fast paced, and keeps you "on the edge of your seat". This is the type of story I really enjoy.
Finally, I read "Mockingjay", which is also around 390 pages. What I like about this book is how the story is told. In the past two books in this series, there has been a constant flow of action (which is good). This book manages to keep that action, but it focuses on down/calm times as well. There is an even balance here, because just when things seem to calm down something else major occurs. In addition, this story is a very descriptive one. Suzanne Collins has done on excellent job of adding dynamics to the setting, and the characters themselves. It was very easy to get involved in such a well written story. After reading this book, and being a fan of the series, I can say that this is one of my all time favorite books!
There you go! Those are the three books that I've read for my Independent Novel Project! Overall, they are all very good books. I would recommend that you read any, and all, of them!

  3. For the quarter reading assignment I read 900 pages of "The Rising Sun" which is written by John Toland. "The Rising Sun" is a very interesting book that tells the events of World War 2 from the perspective of the Japanese. This book begins with the multiple revolutions that took place in Japan before World War 2. These crucial details give the reader an understanding of not only the events that led up to World War 2 but much of the fears that the government during that time as well. As this book explains, there were two branches of the military during World War 2 in Japan. These were the Army and the Navy. This book also points out the many arguments that took place between these two branches. In my opinion, this book gives an excellent description of World War 2 from an unusual viewpoint. It also does a great job to depict the strategies and fears of the military and the government as they were entering war with the United States. However, it also shows the great sense of honor that the members of the Japanese military showed during World War 2. It does this by telling many stories of men who went down with their ships and even men who commited suicide to avoid facing the "disgrace" of being captured. As we all know, World War 2 ended with the nuclear bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. "The Rising Sun" by John Toland clearly depicts these disastrous events and the surrender of the Japanese that followed. There are many facts in this book that were unknown (at least to me) such as the fact that the Japanese were in desperate need for supplies (which was a factor that caused and affected the war) and that they were looking for ways to end the war before the atomic bombs ever were invented. After reading this book, I am looking forward to reading many more books by this author.

  5. I'll just retype it. My first book I read Holes by Louis Sachar. I never read this book and wanted to finally read it. It was a good book, and look forward to reading more of this author's books. This book is mostly about a buy named Stanley, who gets arrested by the cops because he found with a famous baseball player's shoes that he was going to give to charity. He goes to camp and has to dig a five foot deep hole and that hole has to have a 5 foot diameter. He or any of the kids dont know it but they are looking for a tresure. He finds a gold lipstick contianer abd gives it to this other boy so he could have the day off since hes been there for a long time. Then he teaches a kid how to read and the warden thinks hes to dum, so he hits one of the consulers over the head with a shovel, and runs away. Stanley then steals the water truck trying to take water to the boy and he ends up running it into a hole. He runs and meets up with the boy and they go up to the mountians to find water they do and some onions to eat also. They head back to see what they were really looking for and end up getting caught, they also get caught in a lizar nest. This is not normal Lizard nest this lizard caan kill you with one bite. Then his lawyer comes and gets him and Zero out of the camp.

For my next book I read Billy the Kid, the endless ride, by Michael Wallis. This was a very interesting book. This book talks about his life from the day he was born to the day that he was gunned down.

  7. the second book i read was The Dirt an autobiography by motley crue. what the book's about is the start of motley crue and all of their tragedies. It talks about how all four of them had an addiction to aclohol and drugs and still fight a daily battle with these demons. Some of their tragedies they faced is Vince neil killed his best friend while driving drunk and lost his daughter to cancer. Mick Mars has a life threating bone deformity that affects his guitar playin severly, in that he's not able to run around and act like the rest of the wild band. Then Nikki sixx died of a heroin overdose but was brought back to life by the ambulance crew. Tommy Lee almost died of an drug overdose, he also spent time in jail for domestic violence. The book also had interviews with their different managers the band had through out the years and the difficulties they had in managing this crazy band. Such as having to pay for the hotels which were destroyed by the band. Another thing i want to point out is that most of their songs are written on things they experienced in life. And after reading this book they still are searching for happiness and trying to fight their drug and alcohol addictions.

  8. The first book I read was Copper Sun. It is about this girl named Amari. She lived in Africa until her parents died one day. She got taken by the highest bidder and became a slave. She was completely sad, but she ended up meeting a good friend that stuck with her. I like this book, it was really entertaining. I feel bad for Amari but I'm glad she ended up getting a friend.

The second book I read is called A Child Called It. This book is very sad. It's about a little boy named David, he lived with his mother. She would treat him like total crap. His mom would beat him, make him eat house hold cleaners, and she would starve him from regular food. David hated where he lived and wished he could just leave, so one day he ran away. After he got caught, he was always either locked up in the basement or being treated like crap, just like before but worse.
